Many great stories begin as struggles.
My struggle began at birth. I lived in a tin-roof shack on the outskirts of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, before moving to Brooklyn, where, at the age of fifteen, a drug offense changed the course of my life. The following four years I spent in a group home for adolescent boys.
It was there that I was introduced to a book called "The Pact," which once again shifted the course of my life. The story of three young men who triumphed over poverty reaffirmed my intrinsic belief in my own intelligence and potential, despite my struggles. My story could be a driving force for positive change. I made a promise to myself to use my experiences, both traumatic and triumphant, to inspire others through storytelling.
Fast forward to now. I am an acclaimed author, public speaker, and filmmaker. My memoir, A Stone Of Hope, was praised by President Barack Obama as one of several books that “can help us better understand our country’s past and our evolving, persistent struggles with race”. My writing has also appeared in the Good Immigrant, an anthology hailed as a “must-read” by Zadie Smith, Vulture.com, and other prominent websites. Using my memoir as a framework, I’ve helped several authors publish theirs: Scenes from My Life by Michael K. Williams, An Inconvenient Cop by Edwin Raymond, and The Master Plan by Chris Wilson.
As a public speaker, I have appeared before thousands, addressing a range of audiences, including mayors, governors, and other dignitaries. Whenever possible, I have used my story to advocate for young people growing up in circumstances similar to mine. I can guide you in the art of public speaking.
As a successful author, I can help you bring your unique story to life, turn it into a book proposal, and advise you with agents, marketing, and contract negotiations.
I believe that everyone has a story that deserves to be told. My willingness to share my story has changed my life. Let’s identify and amplify the story that can change yours.
